What Does Lent Mean to Your Family?

Holy Week is upon us, and for those who wish to start their own family tradition, this post might help.

Every year during Maundy Thursday, our family observes Visita Iglesia—visiting seven churches while praying the Stations of the Cross. At each stop, we pray two Stations per church, completing all 14 Stations by the end of our journey. It’s a quiet, meaningful pilgrimage that helps us reflect on Christ’s Passion as a family.

Before we begin, we also prepare food packs to give to those who need it most—less fortunate families who live on the street or anyone who simply wants a warm, filling meal. As we travel from one church to the next, we hand these out along the way. It’s our small act of love, done in silence, with full hearts.

For us, Lent means love, charity, and sacrifice. It’s a time to reflect and pray and to serve—especially those who are often forgotten.

This year, I created a Stations of the Cross prayer guide made especially for families. Each Station includes a short reflection that connects Christ’s suffering to the everyday experiences of family life—moments of patience, forgiveness, strength, and love.

If you’d like to use it for your own Visita Iglesia or even for prayer at home, you can download the guide here . Please feel free to share it with anyone who might find it meaningful this Holy Week. Here’s a sample page:

Wishing you a peaceful and grace-filled Lent, wherever your journey takes you. 🙏🙏🙏
