The 4 Filipino Musicians I Can’t Stop Listening To

I wanted to share the Filipino artists who have totally taken over my playlists these days. OPM is definitely having a moment, and these guys are a big part of why.

4. TJ Monterde

I stumbled across TJ Monteverde on a Spotify playlist (Top Hits, I think?), and I was instantly hooked. His voice is so mellow and his song “Palagi” is the perfect romantic dinner date song. A girl can only hope, lol. I also dig “Tulad Mo,” which is a bit more upbeat and has that old-school charm – like something a guy would sing to a girl over the landline back in the day. Remember those marathon phone calls?

By the way, I only found out today that he’s KZ Tandingan’s husband. I’m so late with showbiz news, lol.

3. Zack Tabudlo

“Pulso” was the first Zack Tabudlo song I heard, and I loved the smooth guitar intro. Fun fact: his song “Binibini” was the most streamed song on Spotify in 2021! And bacause of that song, he was featured in a digital billboard at New York’s Time Square!

Not only that, he was also featured in The Rolling Stones magazine as one of the international hitmakers you should have on your radar.I only listened to Binibini recently, it’s a beautiful song with a lovely melody. “Delulu” is another fave. It has a catchy melody. – I’m pretty sure it’s short for delusional, but who knows?

2. Maki

Did you know Maki used to be in South Border? That explains why he’s such a vocal powerhouse! The first song I heard from him was “Saan,” and I was instantly hooked by the melody and the unusual beat. But my absolute favorite is “Kailan” – it’s just so good.

1. Bini

Okay, Bini needs no introduction. These girls are EVERYWHERE. From little kids to grannies, everyone seems to know their songs. You can’t scroll through TikTok without hearing “Panatropiko” as background music, and their dance moves are iconic. The first Bini song I heard was “Wag Muna Tayong Umuwi,” but I didn’t even realize it was them until recently. Now, I have their hits like “Salamin” on constant repeat.

Final Thoughts

I’m just so happy to see Filipino kids getting into OPM again. For a while there, it felt like all anyone listened to was K-pop or Western music. But these artists are proof that OPM is back and better than ever. Hopefully, they’ll keep riding this wave without getting too influenced by K-pop (although, who can blame them, right?).
