Patience is a Virtue

Patience is a virtue. How many times have you heard of that line?

I don’t just hear it. I often say it and remind others about it, back when I was still working as a manager at Starbucks. It has been over a decade since I handled a store so my patience is a bit rusty. Ok, not a bit, but a lot. Lol 😅

So, Sunday night, after all the revelry of Mother’s day , the husband insisted on getting milk tea at Wealthea.

I was finishing my Mother’s Day post, so I hurriedly turned off my laptop. Then I remembered I had to make a few edits to it so I turned my laptop back on again when we arrived home. It was a minor edit so I need to shut my laptop down. The thing is I can’t find the task bar of my laptop, it disappeared! At this point, patience seemed to have decided to take a leisurely stroll.

I was so sleepy since it’s almost 11 pm, I decided to press the shut down button for 3 seconds, thinking that it won’t do anything to my laptop.

But, lo and behold! My laptop won’t turn on the next day for my 5 am class! It says it’s repairing and I just need to wait. I have about 5 lessons to teach that morning and I didn’t have a choice. Because of that I incurred a penalty and was blocked from opening lessons for 5 days. 😔

Together with my son, I brought my laptop to Kuya George, the computer technician of Tech PWS (I’m not sure of the name) located at the Cyberzone portion of SM Fairview. Good thing he was there! He was the one who fixed Zaki’s Asus laptop with a cracked LCD.

We waited an hour and half for him to reformat my laptop. I paid P1,500 for the job and was happy with the result. He also installed new Windows OS. When I asked him why my laptop crashed when I only pressed the power button for 3 seconds to shut it down, he said my laptop was probably performing an update when I did the action and was rudely interrupted. but I know that it wasn’t updating anything because I performed an update several nights ago.

So moral of the story? Don’t friggin’ do a hard shutdown EVER. Always do a graceful shutdown ( I didn’t even know there’s such a term!)

And most of all take deep breaths and- BE PATIENT! I could’ve saved a lot of money and time if I had only been patient.
