Warning: This review contains spoilers, so proceed at your own discretion. Two years ago, the world of K-dramas made an initial impression on me with “Strong Girl Bong Soon,” but I only managed to catch the first episode. At that time, subtitles weren’t my cup of tea, and K-dramas didn’t quite resonate. However, a game-changer came in the form of “Hi Bye Mama,” sparking my love for quality dramas. Now, I carefully choose the gems to invest my time in.
In “Strong Girl Bong Soon,” we encounter the petite but mighty Bong Soon, played by Park Bo-young. Her superhuman strength becomes a central theme, a power passed down through generations of women in her family. On the other hand, “Strong Girl Nam Soon” introduces us to a different narrative, focusing on the titular character’s journey portrayed by Kim Nam-gil.
Strong Girl, Bong Soon’s strengths lie not just in her physical abilities but also in the palpable kilig factor that permeates the series. Every grin is infectious, and the dynamic between Bong Soon and Mr. Ahn (Park Hyung-sik) is irresistibly charming. Bong Soon’s endearing, pint-sized charisma steals the spotlight, leaving an indelible mark.

Though the ultimate choice seems predictable, the love triangle in “Strong Girl Bong Soon” adds depth. The sympathy for Guk Doo adds a layer of complexity, showcasing the emotional intricacies of the characters. Bong Soon’s multifaceted strength, displayed in various scenarios, contributes to the series’ appeal.

Moreover, the humor in “Strong Girl Bong Soon” surpasses expectations thanks to memorable supporting characters like Mr. Oh and his doppelganger (played by Kim Kwang-Bok), Mr. Baek, and the amusing student gangsters who idolize Bong Soon. These elements inject a refreshing comedic realm into the storyline.
In contrast, “Strong Girl Nam Soon” falls short of eliciting the same level of emotional engagement and humor. The absence of a comparable love triangle and the charisma exuded by the characters in “Bong Soon” leaves it trailing behind in terms of viewer connection.
In conclusion, personal preferences may vary, but for me, “Strong Girl Bong Soon” stands out as the superior choice. Its blend of romance, humor, and character dynamics creates an unforgettable viewing experience. While “Strong Girl Nam Soon” has its merits, the overall impact of “Bong Soon” makes it a definite rewatch for K-drama enthusiasts.
